In Victorian times a bouquet of flowers could have a double purpose. Not only was the bouquet a visual and fragrant gift, but it could also carry a subtle, sentimental message to its recipient. Every Victorian lady owned at least one language of flowers volume containing a list of flowers and the sentiments they expressed. Flowers were assigned sentiments based on mythology, appearance, or scent.
In the language of flowers, roses symbolize love and feminine beauty. It is no surprise that we think of roses when we think of brides and weddings. This generous bouquet of pink and red roses, embellished with stars and ribbons would please any bride on her special day.
